History of our Logo

The idea of our business logo dates back to 1826 to a pub on Woolwich High Street in London, England. The Coopers Arms, also known at Plaisted’s Wine House was owned by Thomas Plaisted who was born in 1777 in London.

Thomas Plaisted married Lydia Wilkes and had at least ten children. The two eldest surviving sons inherited the pub the eldest, John selling out to his brother Thomas Wilkes Plaisted within two years of their father’s death. John Plaisted, his wife and many children emigrated to Australia. One of their son’s Arthur Plaisted, who married Mary Anne Kither migrated to Hokitika in New Zealand. They ended up in Whangarei towards the top of the North Island.

Outside the The Cooper’s Arms pub is the lamp where my business logo originated. It is still there today along with the name on the building on the Woolwich High Street. It is no longer a pub, sadly this closed down. The pub became a wine bar at one stage. Latest research stated it was a hairdressers.

My husband is a direct descendant of Thomas Plaisted and is one of two different Plaisted lines living in New Zealand today. Though there is a connection, it is yet to be established.
