Australian #Awethor Michael Elliott

Awethors.awethology.soonLet me introduce you to Australian Michael Elliott.  He will be publishing a book with stories from the dark realms shortly.  Meanwhile you can find his short story in Awethology Dark.  Enjoy

Mike Elliott Tell us a bit about yourself.

Well, I’m a first generation Australian from a British background. I have a very English sense of humour which sometimes manifests itself in my stories. I live in a bayside suburb in the State of Victoria. I’m single and 53. I enjoy drawing, reading, Golden age Hollywood movies and cooking. I have two cats, brothers called Smokey and Charlie.

What bought you to the world of writing?

Quite literally it was my friend and fellow Awethor, Stewart Bint. We met on Twitter and when I casually mentioned I’d love to write, he said ‘go for it.’ I’d always written stories since my earliest schooldays. I also wrote plays etc. I majored in Media Studies at both Secondary School and College. I wrote screenplays for videos, film and radio ads.

What story have you entered into the Awethology and Why?

My story is entitled Pennies From Heaven which is a play on the old saying and the name of one of the story’s characters. I was inspired to write this after reading the wonderfully chilling, Don’t say a Word, by fellow Awethor and friend Rocky Rochford. That was one of the most terrifying stories I’d read so I wanted to create a dark psychological thriller in the same mold.

What type of books do you write and do they fulfill your reader’s needs?

I write horror/thrillers. Fear is a funny thing. Why do people ride rollercoasters and let themselves be terrified? I think it’s because we like being scared and the pleasure of feeling safe again. Books are like that. My books scare readers but they also remind the readers that they are still safe and sound.

Tell us about your short story?

The story is narrated by a woman who is recounting events in her daughter Penny’s life. As the story progresses the reader starts to feel unnerved by this little girl and the mother’s narration of events. That’s as much as I can say without spoiling it for readers lol.

What was your experience with #Awethors group and the Awethology?

Nothing but completely wonderful. I was invited to join not long after its formation which tied in with the start of my professional writing. I’ve made some great friends who are also talented authors. The group is truly like a global family. We all support and nurture each others’s talents and help o promote each others work.

How do you promote your writing?

On Twitter, Facebook, my website and with inexpensive book promo sites.
