Myk Pilgrim author pic squareTell us a bit about yourself.

I’m a child trapped in an adult’s body, with unlimited access to said adult’s bank account and drivers licence. I shave my head because being 30 and having one of those friar tuck haircuts just looks silly. I have a Spider-Man tattoo on my right shoulder – see that licence came in handy? My favourite pass-times include goofing around with my best girl, running, bingeing on horror movies and when I run out of other reasons to procrastinate then I write.

What brought you to the world of writing?

I hear people say that ‘they knew at age four that they wanted to be a writer’ – I don’t say that. I spent my childhood playing with ninja turtle action figures, constructing all manner of contraptions from discarded cardboard boxes and trying (much to my mother’s dismay) to maim myself by skateboarding down any perilously steep driveway I could find.

But at the ripe old age of thirteen, following a break-up, I discovered ‘the poetry’ and as a coping mechanism started filling little notebooks with adolescent angst. I spent months jotting down thoughts using an army of not very manly coloured pens. However when I got over myself and the girl in question, I discovered that the writing habit had sort of stuck with me. But what was more I realised how much I enjoyed it and I’ve been writing ever since. Although these days I only use black ink.

What story have you entered into the Awethology and why?

I wrote a short piece called “Dave” which is set in the universe of another presently untitled novel. It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to hang out in that world because I’ve been up to my eyeballs in revision on Broken Pumpkins, my other work in progress. Awethology dark was a perfect excuse to take a break from hell houses, hungry shadows and violent trick or treaters to legitimately spend some quality time with Dave. It’s amazing how much you can miss people that you made up.

What was your experience with #Awethors group and the Awethology?

I met Christie Stratos on Twitter some months back and she invited me to join the Awethors facebook group. So I suppose if you want to blame anyone, this one is totally on her. We live in the best time in human history to be a creative weirdo. It’s been a fantastic experience meeting all kinds of great folks and watching this anthology coming together over the past six months.

How do you promote your writing?

Mostly I just try to meet people make friends, and sincerely try to entertain and inspire.
